Who are you and what do you do in your band?

I go by the name Kimmortal and I´m responsible of our chainsaw sound. I´m also a kind dicktator who brings forth the litanies and unholy symphonies. Father of most evil.

When/where was your band formed?

 

It was the summer of ´95 and I guess it´s safe to say that we were formed in a bar (Hevimesta). This is what happens when hatred comes alive. We surely shared hatred towards melodic death metal and all its forms. At the time old school death metal was pretty dead or at least suffering. Wow - that was over 10 years ago.

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

I guess death metal chose us. We had long discussions of the state of death metal and felt ashamed. At the time most the bands were polished beyond recognition. No reek of putrefaction. Just autotuned crap. We had our roots and respected ´em. 

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?

Music is mostly done by me, but everyone in the band must agree with my vision. Sometimes I come up with a good one and sometimes we need to change something. But when it comes to drum/basslines, I really want that guys put on their effort. I´m not really a drummer or bassplayer, so I always give them their freedom to do what suits best. BTW - there will be a song written by Hellariser (bass) on our next album. 

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

It´s always different. I mostly come up with riffs and start to work with lyrics afterwards. But in some cases I write music to lyrics. It´s really challenging way to go. Inspiration to music? Fucked up world. Lyrically it´s all between reality and fantasy. Mostly against religions, but also reality and brutality.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

I can only speak for myself, but I have this grudge against religions which keeps me going. I´ve experienced some pretty disturbing stuff in my childhood. When imaginary friend is more important than your successor there´s something horribly wrong... FOAD. Well, they ARE already dead. FUCK THE DEAD!

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

When we started it was weak and kinda "NWOSDM" worship. Nowadays it seems it´s 90´s again. Lots of great bands and it seems they´re in it for real. Also old bands are getting together again and rare gems have been dug out of their graves. Can´t complain. Finland fucking reigns!

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

Well, we have our feet firmly  in the ground. When we started, our goal was to get a record deal. Done. We´re awaiting to get abroad to spread our plague across the countries. I think we kick ass live 666% and the world needs to get it´s ass kicked! Book us and get assraped through your ears.

Who are you and what do you do in your band?

- My name is body, mr. Necrobody. What movie am I referring to? Well anyway, guess I'm the tongue in this band, the mouth and the bullhorn.

When/where was your band formed? 

- Jakestown, also known as Pietarsaari aka Jeppis, back in '89.

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

- To us dm was the shit back in the days. To meet up with 5 guys as teens, sharing the same musical taste, was extraordinary, especially in a small town like Jakestown. It was like the first hard-on. And what's better than a hard-on? Yup, down-tuned guitars. We did not want to make the ordinary brutal dm as  90% of the scene was playing at that time, we kinda added bits and pieces from here and there to what we were digging: sometimes a Grave, sometimes a Carcass.

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?

- We all have our saying. A song can come from a riff, idea, feeling or just when rehearsing, but mainly the fundament is carved from a six string.

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

- Our lyrics are pretty different from basic dm bands. We do have the gory parts, but it's in the allegory. You may fling the coin as many times you want, there's always two sides to it.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

- Of course. If you have a voice, you have an opinion. But, depends on how you think of it. Whatever the case, be it political, economical, racial or religious, it's not to be mixed with death metal. The name of the genre should be enough to tell where we're heading.

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

- Oddly enough, it's living. The whole metal revival lasted longer than ever expected. A good thing? Not if you ask me. Not that everything should stay on the first demo level, but seriously, metal today, not the fish in my pond, really. Things have changed and  they should, but why are all the good things in the past? Aah, some call them memories. Why not make the best of the best times, and make them forever. Some call it motivation, I call it dedication. That's life.

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

- Achievements as a band? Uuugfh, play together, stay together. Cliché? Naah, there's the answer to your ideology. It's in the bone, it's in the bone - what movie did I just referr to?

GALVANIZER

Who are you and what do you do in your band?

We are Galvanizer and we play Death Metal/Grindcore in the old school way. Band contains three members; Vili Mäkinen plays bass and does the deeper growls, Nico Niemikko plays drums and I am Aleksi and I play guitar and I take care of those high pitched vocals too..

When was your band formed?

Galvanizer saw it's daylight somewhere in 2013 when Vili decided to form a Death Metal band. Back then the band wasn't really active but Vili and I became friends in the summer of 2014 and we wanted to play Death Metal together so I moved to Galvanizer. In early November 2014 we released our first demo tape called Ground Above and it was success. Back then I played drums and Vili played bass and guitars and both were doing vocals like nowadays.. Nico replaced me on the drums just few months ago.

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

Well Death Metal is a great way to unload aggression and it is a great style to play. Death Metal just has something that is so enjoyable and there's so much bands to listen.

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?

This far Vili has done almost all composing and I have done all the lyrics except our shortest song "You're".. But we change ideas between us and those things are rolling  pretty smooth.

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

As I said before, I have made almost every songs lyrics. They're pretty much the basic  Death Metal lyrics I could say. Not anything very special but raw horror movie kinda text. About inspiration I can say that it just comes from somewhere and naturally horror movies and this evil world helps me with the creation of horrid tales.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

No. At least I haven't found anything like that haha. We just make music about gory but real things=DEATH...

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

Very very good! Death Metal has found it's popularity again and new bands just pop up all the time. Just have to said that nobody can't say that they have heard everything. There's thousands and thousands of Death Metal bands waiting for founding. Situation here in Finland is very good too. Old bands have made comebacks and there's plenty of new bands too.

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

A full lenght album could be awesome and gigs in europe at least.. We'll see what happens. We got this really great opportunity to play at Finnish Death Metal Maniacs Fest and we're going to conquer Pori!! Hopefully many of you who's reading this are going to there!

This is quite easy! AGONIZED!!! Old but gold... Unfortunately they released only one demo in year -91. Sound of the demo just rips, kicks and kills!!!

Who are you and what do you do in your band?

Jani from Skepticism. I play guitar, compose songs and sometimes write also lyrics.

When/where was your band formed?

It was quite some years ago. Band was found in a small Finnish town called Riihimäki in 1991.  That’s the town where we’re still having our trainings, even some of the members are nowadays living somewhere else.

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

A very simple reason, that was the style of the music that we all listened back then. I mean Metal in general, not only Death Metal. It’s quite different to think of anything else. Of course during the years our musical tastes have been evolving and we have gotten influences from many different sources. Not only from metal music. I think, our first songs can be categorised as slow death metal.

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?

It’s a collective process, I would describe. Typically I’m bringing the riff ideas or song frames to our trainings and we will start working on them together. It’s always a quite long process for us to finish a song. An interesting fact is that I might have a clear idea about a song in my head, but after some iterations with the other members, it typically turns out to be something completely different than I originally thought. Nowadays I’m very used to it and it’s only a good thing. I believe, it increases the versatility of our songs.

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

I would say they are quite abstract in a way. However, there is always a clear idea behind them. At least in major of the cases. Our organ player is mainly writing the lyrics. For some exceptions I have created a few. Inspiration can come from anywhere; from life situations, nature or death for example. To give an example a song called “March Incomplete” on our new album tells about a situation where a composer is fully capable to write great music but for some reason nothing comes out to his note paper. I believe the most of the people who use to write music are familiar with such situation when the inspiration is completely lost. It might be an ordeal.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

Yes and no. If you meant some higher social or political ideology then it’s completely out of our scope. I think, the ideology behind our music is mainly about creating atmospheres. That’s at least how I see it.

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

I’m coming from Finland and metal music has been doing very well during the past 30 years. There are currently a great number of metal bands and concerts are organized all the time. Even in smaller towns. Pretty good situation I would describe. Not only in Death Metal, but in all metal genres.

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

Well, we have been active almost a quarter century. I think, we have achieved quite many things already, keeping in mind that our band is playing pretty extreme form of a metal music. We have released bunch of albums and played a great number of concerts here and there. I would say that I would like to see the next 25 years of active band life. I would also like to visit far east with my band (not done yet). I want to be able to constantly develop our music and release new interesting albums.

Name an other Death Metal band from your country that everyone should hear.

I wouldn’t describe us as a Death Metal band, but anyway… This isn’t really a Death Metal band, but is having a lots of nuances from the genre. I would recommend to check out an old Finnish group called Thromdarr. Maybe I’m having here some “product placement” included in my recommendation as our drummer and vocalist are members of the band but whatsoever, I really appreciate the versatility of the main composer of the band. He is nicely utilising ideas from old metal styles, like Trash, Speed and even Black Metal and so on. I’m not sure when they are going to release something new, but they have released a couple of albums already. Definitely worth of checking.

PURTENANCE

Who are you and what do you do in your band?

We are Purtenance from Nokia, Finland. Promised town of communists, mentally insane and religious nuts!! Harri Salo beats drums, Juha Rannikko handles lead guitar, Ville Nokelainen plays second guitar and also keyboards and Ville Koskela abuses bass and shouts out his demons.

When/where was your band formed?

Purtenance was originally formed back in 1989. After five years we went to hibernation and in 2011 we awakened from slumber with slightly different lineup.

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

It was and still is something so unique and brutal form of music that can’t be compared to any other.

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?

We all participate when we write new music. Junnu usually has most new riffs but everybody else also can and have had their riffs in songs. And when it comes to arrangements everybody brings their own twisted touch to the songs and it forms our music.

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

Back in the days, old vocalist Timo Häyrinen used to make lyrics, they usually told stories, that were both dark and mystic and Ville Koskela writes lyrics nowadays, with still the same essence included. There isn’t better inspiration to write something, but to just look outside with your eyes opened, world is a rotten and strange place to live and to write about.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

What comes to band, no, there is no ideology, but what comes to people in it, we have totally different kind of opinions, views and thought about things, but we still manage to get along with each other. We do share some views so those few things glue us together and we can have conversations about the things (or sometimes not!) we do not agree.

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

Death metal in general has a new golden ago going. Lot of bands, new and old ones, spreading their filthy tunes across the land and it is a very positive thing. It is starting to feel it is the 90' again!

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

We plan things in our band approximate for one year ahead. Now we are releasing new album, called ”…to Spread the Flame of Ancients” and this is what we are going to do now: play as many shows as we can and spread the flame! What comes after this, we don’t know yet, but time will tell it to us.

Hmmm… Though one, cause there is so many good bands around, but if we can only name one, it should be Shrapnel Storm! Even thou they hate this but Shrapnel Storm plays some good old school, Bolt Thrower stylish death metal with what they freaking destroy!!

Who are you and what do you do in your band?

I'm Leandro Ogrish and I am the vocalist of Regurgimentação Necrovaginal Sangrenta.

When/where was your band formed? 

The band was formed in 2014, in Indaiatuba/SP, Brazil.

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

It happened naturally. All members of the band fortunately grew up listening to metal. Not only death, of course. We went through various genres during life, as thrash, black, heavy... However, our roots were stuck in the gruesome and rotten music, and we do what we love and know more: splatter death metal.

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?

Everyone helps. As a family, nothing is done by just one person. All members contribute. And not only in the case of compositions, but in everything. Our decisions and choices are all made together. About our compositions… It always happened naturally. And always in rehearsals. If we have done something we like, we began to put all the necessary structures, adapting the riffs, the blast beats, the vocals ..

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

The lyrics always have some theme compatible with our way of playing and our visual. We talk about murders, diseases, medical cases and other gruesome things. The inspiration comes from everyday life, the things we see, what we read, we think... We can also mention the movies and horror books and real stories of serial killers and bizarre cases that appear sometimes.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

Be the most gruesome, disgusting and gore as possible.

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

Death Metal music in Brazil is more surprising than you think. The scene is quite strong, with real bands fighting for underground. And that's what makes us happy: the possibility of being part of something like this and also strengthen the scene, conquering our space without taking the place of anyone.

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

We want to tour and spread our music as much as possible. We are working on our first full length right now and have the support from a record label will be awesome too.

GOREPHILIA

Who are you and what do you do in your band?

I am Henu. I have been doing the vocals, some of the lyrics and spreading all kinds of sickness in the band since day one.

The others in the current lineup are Jukka and Jussi on guitars, Tami on bass and Kauko on drums.

When/where was your band formed?

We got together originally in Vantaa in 2006 with me, Jukka, Tami and a drummer.

There had been some projects between the members earlier but this one united us and has been the most accomplished of them.

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

Our shared reverence for the likes of Morbid Angel, Deicide and the Finnish Gods of Death sparked our obsession

to start building our own abomination.

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?

Our guitarist Jukka does most of the composing. There have been some contributions by other members also. We are always open for any member to bring in whatever they feel is deserving to be unleashed in the name of Gorephilia. But Jukka has the vision and the skills for writing our Gospel of Death. So the ratio is leaning to his corner about 96,66%.

Mostly the way we do it is; Jukka comes in with a song and then we start rehearsing. Sometimes the songs are completely ready and sometimes not.

Some songs are even put together almost completely at the rehearsal room.

This sort of variance keeps the dying interesting, 'till the grave and beyond!

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

Gorephilia has many lyricists, so we have a very varying output. Thus far me, Jukka and Tami have been the writers.

The themes vary between different angles on suffering, death, misery and the release of spirit from it's carnal cage.

Some lyrics get their inspiration from our personal experiences, hate, thoughts, ideals or dreams. Some ancient ones are purely fictional horror stories.

The combining feature is mostly a very nihilistic and hopeless point of view. Although the results of these wallowings are not always negative.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

No. We have always been a bunch of deviants lusting for the things only darkness can inspire. 

Though those don't form an ideology. Not for the living at least.

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

Death Metal is doing great. Decomposition is well in its way and the maggots are hungry.

There are a lot of newer good bands and as this whole thing has been growing for years now we have got some of the old

geezers digging their way out of their graves and to the stage again. Ten years ago I would have never dreamed of seeing Abhorrence live or hearing

any life sings from Rippikoulu. The Kill-Town Death fests at Copenhagen were truly amazing events to be immersed in the stinking fumes from the old and

new worshipers of Death. And this year we have the TOTALLY INSANE lineup at the Finnish Death Metal Maniacs fest to further underline the fact that

there are still mesmerizing convulsions to be witnessed from this corpse of a genre. The only thing battling against the devotees is stagnation. Hopefully

we get to see many more acts stretching beyond the boundaries of their creativity to keep the vomit steaming! 

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

Our next goal is to finally get our second full length album recorded and released. Hopefully we get to do gigs around

the globe with groups truly drenched in this insanity. And to see all the sick individuals we have been in contact with through the years.

Ultimately there is only one achievement worth anything in life: Death.
