PURTENANCE

Who are you and what do you do in your band?

We are Purtenance from Nokia, Finland. Promised town of communists, mentally insane and religious nuts!! Harri Salo beats drums, Juha Rannikko handles lead guitar, Ville Nokelainen plays second guitar and also keyboards and Ville Koskela abuses bass and shouts out his demons.

When/where was your band formed?

Purtenance was originally formed back in 1989. After five years we went to hibernation and in 2011 we awakened from slumber with slightly different lineup.

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

It was and still is something so unique and brutal form of music that can’t be compared to any other.

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?

We all participate when we write new music. Junnu usually has most new riffs but everybody else also can and have had their riffs in songs. And when it comes to arrangements everybody brings their own twisted touch to the songs and it forms our music.

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

Back in the days, old vocalist Timo Häyrinen used to make lyrics, they usually told stories, that were both dark and mystic and Ville Koskela writes lyrics nowadays, with still the same essence included. There isn’t better inspiration to write something, but to just look outside with your eyes opened, world is a rotten and strange place to live and to write about.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

What comes to band, no, there is no ideology, but what comes to people in it, we have totally different kind of opinions, views and thought about things, but we still manage to get along with each other. We do share some views so those few things glue us together and we can have conversations about the things (or sometimes not!) we do not agree.

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

Death metal in general has a new golden ago going. Lot of bands, new and old ones, spreading their filthy tunes across the land and it is a very positive thing. It is starting to feel it is the 90' again!

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

We plan things in our band approximate for one year ahead. Now we are releasing new album, called ”…to Spread the Flame of Ancients” and this is what we are going to do now: play as many shows as we can and spread the flame! What comes after this, we don’t know yet, but time will tell it to us.

Name an other Death Metal band from your country that everyone should hear.

Hmmm… Though one, cause there is so many good bands around, but if we can only name one, it should be Shrapnel Storm! Even thou they hate this but Shrapnel Storm plays some good old school, Bolt Thrower stylish death metal with what they freaking destroy!!

Short stories are the best… STAY TRUE, STAY BRUTAL!!

Regurgimentação Necrovaginal Sangrenta

Who are you and what do you do in your band?

I'm Leandro Ogrish and I am the vocalist of Regurgimentação Necrovaginal Sangrenta.

Our full lineup is:
Leandro Ogrish - Vocals
Ricardo Gore - Guitars/Vocals
Marcosplatter - Bass/Vocals
Emanuel Kronéis – Drums/Vocals

When/where was your band formed?

The band was formed in 2014, in Indaiatuba/SP, Brazil.

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

It happened naturally. All members of the band fortunately grew up listening to metal. Not only death, of course. We went through various genres during life, as thrash, black, heavy... However, our roots were stuck in the gruesome and rotten music, and we do what we love and know more: splatter death metal.

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?

Everyone helps. As a family, nothing is done by just one person. All members contribute. And not only in the case of compositions, but in everything. Our decisions and choices are all made together. About our compositions… It always happened naturally. And always in rehearsals. If we have done something we like, we began to put all the necessary structures, adapting the riffs, the blast beats, the vocals ..

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

The lyrics always have some theme compatible with our way of playing and our visual. We talk about murders, diseases, medical cases and other gruesome things. The inspiration comes from everyday life, the things we see, what we read, we think... We can also mention the movies and horror books and real stories of serial killers and bizarre cases that appear sometimes.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

Be the most gruesome, disgusting and gore as possible.

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

Death Metal music in Brazil is more surprising than you think. The scene is quite strong, with real bands fighting for underground. And that's what makes us happy: the possibility of being part of something like this and also strengthen the scene, conquering our space without taking the place of anyone.

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

We want to tour and spread our music as much as possible. We are working on our first full length right now and have the support from a record label will be awesome too.

Name an other Death Metal band from your country that everyone should hear.

Incinerad, NervoChaos, Necromesis, Chaoslace, Corporate Death, Visceral Slaughter, Madness, Sangrena, Sádico Infesto, Cauterization, Desdominus, Vomepotro, Vulture, Havok 666, Queiron, Headhunter D.C. and many others…

GOREPHILIA

Who are you and what do you do in your band?

I am Henu. I have been doing the vocals, some of the lyrics and spreading all kinds of sickness in the band since day one.
The others in the current lineup are Jukka and Jussi on guitars, Tami on bass and Kauko on drums.

When/where was your band formed?

We got together originally in Vantaa in 2006 with me, Jukka, Tami and a drummer.
There had been some projects between the members earlier but this one united us and has been the most accomplished of them.

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

Our shared reverence for the likes of Morbid Angel, Deicide and the Finnish Gods of Death sparked our obsession
to start building our own abomination.

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?

Our guitarist Jukka does most of the composing. There have been some contributions by other members also. We are always open for any member to bring in whatever they feel is deserving to be unleashed in the name of Gorephilia. But Jukka has the vision and the skills for writing our Gospel of Death. So the ratio is leaning to his corner about 96,66%.

Mostly the way we do it is; Jukka comes in with a song and then we start rehearsing. Sometimes the songs are completely ready and sometimes not.
Some songs are even put together almost completely at the rehearsal room.
This sort of variance keeps the dying interesting, 'till the grave and beyond!

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

Gorephilia has many lyricists, so we have a very varying output. Thus far me, Jukka and Tami have been the writers.
The themes vary between different angles on suffering, death, misery and the release of spirit from it's carnal cage.
Some lyrics get their inspiration from our personal experiences, hate, thoughts, ideals or dreams. Some ancient ones are purely fictional horror stories.
The combining feature is mostly a very nihilistic and hopeless point of view. Although the results of these wallowings are not always negative.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

No. We have always been a bunch of deviants lusting for the things only darkness can inspire.
Though those don't form an ideology. Not for the living at least.

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

Death Metal is doing great. Decomposition is well in its way and the maggots are hungry.
There are a lot of newer good bands and as this whole thing has been growing for years now we have got some of the old
geezers digging their way out of their graves and to the stage again. Ten years ago I would have never dreamed of seeing Abhorrence live or hearing
any life sings from Rippikoulu. The Kill-Town Death fests at Copenhagen were truly amazing events to be immersed in the stinking fumes from the old and
new worshipers of Death. And this year we have the TOTALLY INSANE lineup at the Finnish Death Metal Maniacs fest to further underline the fact that
there are still mesmerizing convulsions to be witnessed from this corpse of a genre. The only thing battling against the devotees is stagnation. Hopefully
we get to see many more acts stretching beyond the boundaries of their creativity to keep the vomit steaming!

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

Our next goal is to finally get our second full length album recorded and released. Hopefully we get to do gigs around
the globe with groups truly drenched in this insanity. And to see all the sick individuals we have been in contact with through the years.

Ultimately there is only one achievement worth anything in life: Death.

Adramelech. Their Psychostasia album is an amazing piece of art, forever heralded in darkness!

BLASTOMYCOSIS

Who are you and what do you do in your band?

My name is Tristan and I play guitar

When/where was your band formed?

Blastomycosis was formed in 2007 in Toronto by myself and former vocalist Phil

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

I also play in a black/death band. I decided to start recording some of the heavier riffs I had that really didn't fit into that band. I also liked death metal, so I got Phil (our former vocalist) to lay down some brutal vocals to some riffs I recorded to a drum machine.  We put the demo up on myspace and it got the attention of CDN records.  We had no intention to start a serious band, but after that we started to find members and become a legit band.

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does
everyone contribute?

I write most of the riffs.  Covered in Flies and Afterbirth was a bit different, as our drummer Dave sort of made most of the structures of the songs with the drums.  I kinda just designed my riffs around his beats.  Then the whole band would tweak the riffs and structures.  So essentially the entire thing was written by jamming.

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

I don't write the lyrics but Lyrically, we are pretty typical to be honest, gore, whores ect...  Some medical stuff mixed in.  We have tried the make the lyrics almost funny at times.  Isabelle has a different style than our first singer.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

No real ideology no.  We don't take ourselves super seriously.

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

I think it's pretty good.  In Canada too.  Lot's of awesome band but support for them isn't the greatest.

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

We just want to tour, put out albums and just play some death metal for who ever wants to hear it.

Name an other Death Metal band from your country that everyone should hear.

Hard to choose just one.  Deamon, Ataxia, Irihis, Gravitational Distorition, Serene Molestation, Bastard Son are some among a lot of awesome bands.

HUMAN INFECTION

Who are you and what do you do in your band?

Andrew B: death growls

When/where was your band formed?

Andrew B: The band was formed in 2009, in Roanoke, VA. I joined in the summer of 2010.

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

Andrew B: I chose to play death metal because it's in my blood. It's the greatest genre of music, and while I love and appreciate other styles...doom, classic, black, power, gothic, etc...I eat, sleep, and fuckin' bleed death metal. I've played in power/heavy metal bands in the past, but I've always felt that death metal is the genre I can relate to the best.

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?

Andrew B: Our guitarist, Andrew, writes most of the music but he and our drummer, CJ, frame the songs out together. CJ also plays guitar and has thrown in riffs here and there. I expect our new bassist, Dusty, will contribute more to writing for the upcoming album.

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

Andrew B: My first exposure to "deep" death metal lyrics was when I read Lord Worm's lyrics in Cryptopsy, I was in awe at how beautifully written they were, yet also so dark and simply fucked up. I've always tried to achieve something similar with my lyrics, I have a more poetic style, I think, and I naturally spend a lot of time tweaking them to get them just the way I want them. My favorite set of lyrics that I've ever written are "Decay Inheritance" from the last album, and it's basically about Satanism, and is one of only a couple songs we've done that have occult themes.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

Andrew B: I suppose, just to play pure death metal, in a very honest and to-the-point style.

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

Andrew B: I really love the current "old school death" movement, and I am flattered that some consider us to be a part of it, really. You could say it gets a bit copy-cat with some of the bands, but I also think it's great that some of these bands - Morbus Chron, for instance - have created something that is very innovative and original.

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

Andrew B: Naturally to achieve noteriety and respect on a wider scale (through touring and releasing more albums), as I think is true for all bands in our position.

Name an other Death Metal band from your country that everyone should hear.

Andrew B: Skeletal Remains, their album "Beyond the Flesh" is fucking fleshripping!! I think that band sets a new standard for death metal today, in the US! They sound like old Gorguts, Disincarnate, and Pestilence.

BASTARD SON

Who are you and what do you do in your band?

I'm Dan Harrington, guitarist for Bastard Son

line up:

Chad Parsons vocals
Jeff Higgins guitar
Ty Clements drums- vocals
James Flint bass

When/where was your band formed?

We have all played together for 20 plus years in one form or another.  But Bastard Son was formed late 2011 and put out our first album in 2012.

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

We all grew up playing instruments together.  I guess death metal is the ultimate progression.  Rock, to metal, to thrash, to death metal

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?

Jeff usually composes the majority of the song, then Ty and myself will work out drum patterns and additional guitar work.  The song will be recorded, then passed along to Chad and James.  Chad will write lyrics and James will add bass lines.  The band then will get together and work out the final arrangements.

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

Chad writes all lyrics at the moment, they are of a wide variety of subjects.  Everything is based off anger in one form or another.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

Five angry guys playing as heavy as possible.

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

I think death metal comes in cycles.  We've been playing it since it's inception.  I feel it will always have it's fan base and at the moment I feel its strong and old school styles are back in full force.

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

Plans. Put out as much music as possible and play as many shows as we can.  Everyone likes commercial success, but we play death metal for the love not the profit.

Name an other Death Metal band from your country that everyone should hear.

Currently we've been listening to "Ataxia", out of London Ontario, if you guys get a chance, check them out
