Who are you and what do you do in your band?

Greetings. I am Kari and I am the vocalist of Solothus.

When/where was your band formed? 

Solothus was originally formed back in 2007, but nothing really important happened until in 2010 when Veli moved to Turku. Then we put on a whole new gear, so to say and things got serious.

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

 When we started the band, our music was a lot more Doom Metal than it is to Death, but over the years our sound naturally progressed towards Death Metal. Songs that Veli made just started to have more of an Death Metal-side to them. I do not think it was anything we were really aiming to do. We just wanted to create heavy music that we loved. Death/Doom Metal is the genre we feel most at home.

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?

Veli writes all of our music. Of course they take their final shape at the rehearsal room, but it is basically he who comes up with our songs.

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

I write all the lyrics. My inspiration comes from many different sources. Mostly Sword&Sorcery/Fantasy-literature, but also from everyday life. It just might be a small idea and then it grows into song lyrics.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

All five members of the band are inviduals and we all have our own views of life and ideologies. Solothus does not hold any idealogy or politics other than Death, Doom and Destruction. We are a Death/Doom Metal band playing heavy and crushing music, the way we love to do it. Nothing more, nothing less.

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

Extremely vibrant. There is so many killer bands coming from Finland and abroad. Of course there has also been some not so great bands just copying the older bands, without any real idea of themselves... Some great, some bad.

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

Create music and play live, simple as that. Personally I would love to play at some Open Air festival at some point. Also a longer tour abroad would be great, but all in their own time. We shall see what the future has instore for us.

Name an other Death Metal band from your country that everyone should hear.

I cannot name just one band. My personal favorites are Corpsessed, Gorephilia, Maveth and Krypts. Also this band from Loimaa called Nashorn is something that I should mention to check out! Just get your ass to Finnish Death Metal Maniacs Fest in September to see how the scene is doing!

Stay tuned! More DOOM to come! We will enter the studio during summer to record our sophomore album. It will be released by the great Doomentia Records later this year! Also our debut album will be released on vinyl by the same label some time in the near future.
